For our Ethics section of NewsVision, my classmates and I were each assigned  a case study/report on a journalism related ethical issue. I covered Jayson Blair, who was a New York Times journalist that was fired after plagiarizing other newspapers and falsifying his interviews.

Writing studio-based news stories, news packages, & the on-camera journalist

I read chapters 3, 4, and 5 in our class book, "Writing and Producing Television News" I also answered questions related to the contents of those chapters.

Reporting Recap and Careers

In this two-part assignment, I watched HU News Service/ NewsVision videos and answered questions regarding their following the 'formula' for storytelling. In the second part, I read the National Association of Broadcasters' guide to careers in television and answered questions.

I watched one local newscast and one national newscast and articulated my observations about the elements of each and what the news blocks consisted of.

Television News and Convergence

For this assignment, I watched four different videos that dealt with the history of broadcast news. Among those videos were the first 30-minute broadcast by Walter Cronkite, the birth of cable news (CNN), A Day in the life of a Newsroom, and Tamron Hall's comments on being a female, black journalist.

First Reporter Pitch

My first reporter pitch consisted of a local reaction to a national news story. I decided to pitch a story related to the College Board deciding to fall back on their initial plans to add an "adversity score" to the cumulative score of their nationwide exams.
